solo at the zoo

in june we became members of the zoo. i knew that emmett and maggie would enjoy getting to know the animals there and that they would grow into the "zoomazium" indoor play area. we have visited the zoo many times since last spring, but i haven't ever taken the kids on my own before today. and maybe it's not a big deal to anyone else, but it was a small victory for me: another place that emmett, maggie and their mama can all happily coexist for an afternoon! one big reason that i was finally ready to take the solo zoo plunge is that e & m's stair descending skills are beginning to match up with their climbing prowess. the play area has a climbing rock that i couldn't have managed two sketchy climbers on in the past, but today it worked out just fine.
besides some good play time, we strolled the park and looked at some of our favorite animals: penguins, flamingos, ducks, giraffes, and for the first time we saw kangaroos and got really close to a huge emu.
yes, it's true, i love the zoo. and i really think the kids do, too!
